Basketball Game Preview: Sumner Tigers vs. Mattanawcook Lynx

Sumner hasn't had much luck against Mattanawcook recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Sumner Tigers will face off against the Mattanawcook Lynx at 6:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

On Tuesday, Sumner was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 63-59 to Narraguagus.

Meanwhile, Mattanawcook had already won 11 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35.1 points) and they went ahead and made it 12 on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Golden Bucks 73-23. Given the Lynx's advantage in MaxPreps' Maine basketball rankings (they are ranked second, while the Golden Bucks are ranked 41st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mattanawcook's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 70.3 points per game. As for Sumner, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.

Sumner was taken down by Mattanawcook 82-35 in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can Sumner avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
