Softball Recap: Northside Vikings vs. Salem Spartans

Northside had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 2-13 to make it four. They came up short against the Salem Spartans, falling 17-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 10-0 two weeks ago.

As for Salem, the win (which was their tenth in a row) raised their record to 12-3. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 10.4 runs.

For Salem's part, Olivia Crosswhite made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Crosswhite has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Salem let Piper Furmage and Anne Crew run wild. Furmage went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while Crew went 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits Furmage has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Caitlin Wells, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.
