Soccer Game Preview: Walden Grove vs. Salpointe Catholic

The Walden Grove Red Wolves will venture away from home to take on the Salpointe Catholic Lancers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Walden Grove's favor is that they have posted at least four goals in their last six contests.

Walden Grove's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They were the clear victor by a 5-0 margin over Ironwood Ridge. The Red Wolves' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a goal in their last three games.

They hit Ironwood Ridge with a four-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Vivien Villarreal (2), Mia Miranda, Alissa Spear, and Savannah Pinto.

Meanwhile, Salpointe Catholic faced Xavier College Prep in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. Salpointe Catholic took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Xavier College Prep. Having soared to a lofty four goals in the game before, the Lancers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Walden Grove pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 33 goals over those four contests. As for Salpointe Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-2-1.

Walden Grove was able to grind out a solid win over Salpointe Catholic in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, winning 3-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Walden Grove since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
