Football Recap: Klayton Burgess Leads Parke Heritage's Defense on Friday

Parke Heritage not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since September 13, 2024 (when they won 39-0). They blew past the South Vermillion Wildcats 32-12. With the Wolves ahead 20-0 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

Blake Ledcke went supernova, rushing for 64 yards and a pair of scores. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in rushing touchdowns (two).

Parke Heritage didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited South Vermillion to a completion percentage of just 36.1%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from three players: Mason Wilcox, Timothy Presley, and Hayden Vandivier, who each logged one passes deflected. Parke Heritage wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 50%.

Parke Heritage's defense didn't let Ben Shryock., get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for four sacks. Klayton Burgess was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up three sacks himself. Burgess is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least six every time he's taken the field this season. Parke Heritage got some further help from Vinny Goldner: he made 13 total tackles and snagged an interception.

Despite the loss, South Vermillion still got an impressive performance from Shryock, who rushed for 144 yards and one touchdown while picking up 7.6 yards per carry, and also threw for 140 yards and one TD. Shryock showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 57 yards.

Parke Heritage now has a winning record of 2-1. As for South Vermillion, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
