Basketball Recap: Clay City Piles Up the Points Against Owen Valley

Clay City had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 30-point drubbing they dealt Owen Valley on Friday. The Clay City Eels breezed by the Owen Valley Patriots to the tune of 60-30. The Eels have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 22 points or more this season.

Despite the defeat, Owen Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Donavin Newby posted 14 points and five rebounds.

The victory was the fourth in a row for Clay City, bringing their record for this year to 5-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.8 points per game. As for Owen Valley, they dropped their record down to 1-6 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.
