Basketball Recap: Asheboro Takes a Loss

Asheboro lost against Ledford back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Asheboro Blue Comets lost 51-26 to the Ledford Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Blue Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 465th, while the Panthers are ranked 113th).

Despite the defeat, Asheboro saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Adalynn Scherer posted three points along with eight boards and three steals. Scherer has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played.

It was another big night for Izzy Smith, who went 9-for-14 to rack up 19 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals for Ledford. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 15 points per game. Another player making a difference was Kiya Autry, who put up ten points.

Asheboro has traveled a rocky road recently having lost ten of their last 11 matches, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season. As for Ledford, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-4.

Asheboro didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 43-39 loss against Montgomery Central on the 11th. As for Ledford, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 54-27 victory against North Davidson on the 11th.
