Basketball Recap: Draughn's Win Ends Four-Game Losing Streak on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Owen, Draughn was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They skirted past the Avery County Vikings 70-67. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Wildcats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 541st, while the Vikings are ranked 136th).

Draughn's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-7. As for Avery County, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 7-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Draughn Wildcats face off against the Patton Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Draughn has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Avery County, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on McDowell at 6:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025.
