Basketball Recap: Jaylen Phillips-Grey's Big Game Can't Quite Lead East over Lawrence Free State

East lost against Lawrence Free State back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The East Aces fell 69-62 to the Lawrence Free State Firebirds. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (56), the Aces still had to take the loss.

Several Aces players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaylen Phillips-Grey, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine boards. Those 22 points gave Phillips-Grey a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ismael Berry, who shot 45% from the field on his way to 19 points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

East now has a losing record of 10-11. As for Lawrence Free State, the win got them back to even at 9-9-1.

East does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lawrence Free State, they will face off against Derby at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Derby's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
