Baseball Recap: Fountain-Fort Carson Wins Going Away Against Liberty

Fountain-Fort Carson had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Liberty on Wednesday. The Trojans put the hurt on the Lancers with a sharp 10-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

James Jones looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Karter Vega-Hernandez was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. Fountain-Fort Carson is 6-1 when Vega-Hernandez posts two or more runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brett Powell, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Fountain-Fort Carson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Fountain-Fort Carson is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Liberty, they dropped their record down to 4-7 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Coming up, Fountain-Fort Carson will challenge Rampart at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Rams have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.5 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Liberty, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 9-8 victory against Doherty on the 7th.
