Baseball Game Preview: Booneville Blue Devils vs. Houston Hilltoppers

The Booneville Blue Devils will challenge the Houston Hilltoppers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Booneville will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Booneville gave up the first runs on Friday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Mantachie by a score of 7-3.

Cade Lott was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off 11 hits. Lott was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Lott wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Porter Tapp, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Another was Bryson Saylors, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Houston unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of West Union by a score of 1-0. The Hilltoppers were red-hot at the plate heading into the match (they scored no less than ten runs in the three contests prior), but the Eagles' pitchers proved too tough.

Booneville's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-14. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Houston, their loss dropped their record down to 16-7.

Booneville couldn't quite finish off Houston when the teams last played back in February of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Blue Devils avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
