League recap: Modesto Christian climbs in state rankings with win

Modesto Christian moved up to 327 from 368 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in Trans Valley. The Crusaders were able to make move up by besting Hughson 30-28.

Ripon extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Riverbank, 41-19. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Indians.

The Bruins' dynamic duo of Angel Torres and Cecil Arias proved tough for Ripon to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Torres threw for 274 yards and two touchdowns and Arias had 123 yards receiving. Alfredo Capas helped Riverbank's passing attack out by catching two balls for 49 yards.

Tanner Duron was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 271 yards on 34 carries as the Huskies fell to Chris Johnson's team. Kyle Kerlee also contributed to the rushing game with 104 yards on the ground.

The Indians' Kyle Wengel and Bradley Clark have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Trans Valley in both passing and receiving yards. Wengel has thrown for 1483 yards this season, while Clark, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 32 catches for 606 yards. Orestimba's Steven Machado leads the league in rushing yards with 1612.

Ripon's Josh McCreath is a mere 94 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 133 carries McCreath has accumulated 906 yard this year.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Orestimba takes on the Indians. Aaron Souza's team is in fourth place, while Ripon is in first place.

There should be lots of points scored when the Warriors and the Indians face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Orestimba comes in having scored 270 this season, while Ripon has scored 395.

Jim Oliver's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,207 from 11,747. The advance stemmed from a 41-19 victory over the Bruins last week.
