Baseball Recap: Springstead Takes a Loss

Springstead had lost five straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 5-15 to make it six. They fell just short of the Cypress Creek Coyotes by a score of 4-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Coyotes this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 4-1 two weeks ago.

Springstead saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caleb Brandenburg, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Alex Schmidt also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Cypress Creek, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games.

On Cypress Creek's side, Parker Burrmann looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Burrmann a new career-high in strikeouts (four).

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gavyn Mullis, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run. Michel Latuff was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springstead will take on Bishop McLaughlin Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Cypress Creek, they will square off against Nature Coast Tech at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Sharks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Coyotes' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
