Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Zion Eagles vs. Central Lions

The Mt. Zion Eagles and the Central Lions will compete for holiday cheer at 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Mt. Zion is looking for their season's first victory.

Mt. Zion is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They fell just short of Trion by a score of 59-56 on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Eagles have suffered since January 17th.

Despite the loss, Mt. Zion had strong showings from Kevontay Cousins, who posted 15 points, and Avery Butler, who put up 13 points. Butler continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Another player making a difference was Dayson Rolling, who earned eight points.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Central duked it out with Mundy's Mill on Tuesday. It was close, but the Lions ultimately received the gift of a 72-69 win from a begrudging Lions squad. They haven't had any issues with the Tigers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Mt. Zion's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Central, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.

Mt. Zion came up short against Central when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 63-57. Can the Eagles avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
