Guilford hasn't had much luck against Freeport recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Vikings will be playing in front of their home fans against the Pretzels at 4:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
On Wednesday, Guilford didn't have quite enough to beat Harlem and fell 12-10.
Joseph Schultheis and Benjamin King stepped up to the plate in a big way. Schultheis got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base and one run, while King went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double. Another player making a difference was Albert Wonn, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Freeport never let their opponents score on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Rockford East as they made off with a 23-0 victory. The matchup marked the Pretzels' most dominant win of the season.
Henry Winter was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Zach Gill was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Brody Stewart was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Freeport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rockford East only managed three.
Freeport's victory ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 13-15. As for Guilford, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-7.
