Basketball Recap: Riley Trumpower and Katie Griffey Secure Win for Lucas

Lucas had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. Everything went their way against the Hillsdale Falcons as they made off with a 57-32 victory. This was payback for the Cubs, who suffered a 41-17 loss the last time these two teams met.

Lucas was led to victory by Katie Griffey and Riley Trumpower. Griffey went 10 of 17 on her way to 24 points in addition to eight rebounds and four steals, while Trumpower almost dropped a triple-double on 16 points, ten boards, and nine steals. Trumpower's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Olivia Brown, who posted four points along with ten rebounds and seven steals.

Lucas smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in four consecutive games.

Lucas has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Hillsdale, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-15.

Lucas will head out on the road to face off against Crestline at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Lucas is facing Crestline at the right time seeing as Crestline is stuck on a 13-game losing streak. As for Hillsdale, they and Dalton will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday without much rest having both just played.
