League recap: Goessel climbs in standings with win

Goessel was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from eighth to fourth in Wheat State (8 Man). Earlier in the week, the Bluebirds triumphed over Burrton 58-6.

Solomon extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Sylvan-Lucas, 46-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.

White City's dynamic duo of Sam Morgan and Jace Beavers proved tough for Hope to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Morgan threw for 192 yards and four touchdowns and Beavers had 85 yards receiving. John Settgast helped White City's passing attack out by catching three balls for 83 yards.

Colton Shirack was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 17 carries, he ran for 130 yards as Solomon fell to the Lions. Daniel Durant also contributed to the rushing game with 61 yards on the ground.

Braxton Kyle made the biggest impact on defense this week as Peabody-Burns topped Canton-Galva. The 5-foot-10 sophomore grabbed one interception and recorded two fumbles.

6-foot-0 quarterback Hunter Pickens of the Warriors is the league leader in passing yards this season with 785. He has also thrown seven touchdowns. On the ground, Little River's Ethan Wright has rushed for 457 yards which leads the league. The leading receiver in the league this season is Shane Goerzen. The Goessel star has 19 catches for 312 yards.

A big matchup in the league this week will be when Peabody-Burns takes on Centre. At the moment, David Pickens's team is in third, while the Cougars are in fifth.

Goessel took down the Chargers 58-6 last week, the largest margin of any game. Trey Schmidt threw for 100 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 48 yards in the win.
