Basketball Recap: Brunswick Comes Up Short

Brunswick was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 18th straight defeat dating back to last season. They had to suffer through a 64-31 loss at the hands of the Smithsburg Leopards. While losing is never fun, the Railroaders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 245th, while the Leopards are ranked 40th).

Smithsburg's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jillian Malott, who went 10-for-13 to rack up 24 points and three steals. The dominant performance also gave Malott a new career-high in shooting accuracy (77%). Another player making a difference was Claire Bono, who posted 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists.

Brunswick's loss dropped their record down to 0-15. As for Smithsburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Coming up, Brunswick won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Boonsboro at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Smithsburg, they will challenge Liberty at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
