Baseball Recap: Peoria Christian Has No Trouble Against Midwest Central

Peoria Christian had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Midwest Central on Tuesday. The Chargers put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 12-2 victory. With that win, the Chargers brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Peoria Christian got a great performance from Allyn Uhler as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. Uhler is becoming a predictor of the Chargers' success: when he allows at most one hit the team is undefeated (and 5-9 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Gavin Walder was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Peoria Christian is 5-1 when Walder posts two or more runs, but 3-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Pavelka, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Peoria Christian hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Peoria Christian pushed their record up to 8-9 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Midwest Central, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last ten contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-15 record this season.

Peoria Christian will head out on the road to take on ROWVA/Williamsfield at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Chargers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Midwest Central, they will be playing at home against Athens at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
