Baseball Game Preview: Western Hills Mustangs vs. Bowsher BlueRacers

The Western Hills Mustangs will challenge the Bowsher BlueRacers at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Western Hills' pitching crew heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Hughes with a sharp 16-0 win. Considering the Mustangs have won four games by more than nine runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

John Farris was a major factor no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 13 over six innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Western Hills got a massive performance out of Peyton Schnitzler, who scored two runs and stole five bases while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Schnitzler is becoming a predictor of the Mustangs' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Myles Pittman was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.

Western Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Bowsher never got on the board in their matchup on Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Withrow last Saturday. They blew past the Tigers 17-0. The BlueRacers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Western Hills has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 4-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Bowsher, the win got them back to even at 2-2-1.

Western Hills skirted past Bowsher 7-6 when the teams last played back in April of 2023. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the BlueRacers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
