Basketball Game Preview: Pecatonica Indians vs. Galena Pirates

The Pecatonica Indians and the Galena Pirates will compete for holiday cheer at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Galena took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Pecatonica, who comes in off a win.

Pecatonica is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past South Beloit 82-48 on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Indians sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Meanwhile, Galena suffered their closest loss since February 13th on Saturday. They fell just short of Eastland by a score of 53-51. While losing is never fun, the Pirates can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while the Cougars are ranked 103rd).

Galena has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.8 points over those games. As for Pecatonica, they now have a winning record of 3-2.

Pecatonica strolled past Galena when the teams last played back in February of 2024 by a score of 73-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Indians since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
