Softball Game Preview: Bangor Rams vs. Oxford Hills Vikings

Bangor hasn't had much luck against Oxford Hills recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Rams will venture away from home to take on the Vikings at 4:00 p.m. Bangor's pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so Oxford Hills' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Bangor took a 12-run defeat the last time they faced off against Edward Little, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Rams had just enough and edged out the Red Eddies 5-4.

Emma Tripp spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Bangor let Eva Coombs and Sophie Lynch run wild. Coombs went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double, while Lynch went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Coombs has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Abby Folsom, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.

Bangor was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Edward Little only posted a batting average of .200.

Meanwhile, Oxford Hills got themselves on the board against Lewiston on Wednesday, but Lewiston never followed suit. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Blue Devils.

Oxford Hills has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Bangor, they pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road.

Bangor suffered a grim 19-2 defeat to Oxford Hills when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Rams avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
