Baseball Game Preview: Salem Hills Skyhawks vs. Pacifica Mariners

The Salem Hills Skyhawks will venture away from home to square off against the Pacifica Mariners at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Salem Hills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Salem Hills is headed out in good spirits considering the team just ended their winless streak on the road against Carbon on Thursday. Salem Hills was the clear victor by a 16-1 margin over Carbon. The victory continues a trend for the Skyhawks in their matchups with the Dinos: they've now won four in a row.

Trig Richards and Mason Ward were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Richards tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ward tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. At the plate, Richards scored a run and stole two bases, while Ward scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Talon Cloward was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaleb DeGraffenried, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.

Salem Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pacifica). They walked away with a 5-2 win over Mission Viejo on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Mariners as it put an end to their ten-game losing streak.
