Softball Game Preview: Franklin County Eagles vs. Staunton River Golden Eagles

The Franklin County Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Staunton River Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Franklin County is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last four games.

Franklin County's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Cave Spring with a sharp 6-0 win. Considering the Eagles have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Staunton River entered their matchup against Lord Botetourt on Tuesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Golden Eagles fell just short of the Cavaliers by a score of 3-1. The game marked the Golden Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Staunton River got a good showing from Emma Alcorn, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

On the hitting side, Staunton River saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaidyn Roach, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Franklin County's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Staunton River, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 8-2.

Franklin County came out on top in a nail-biter against Staunton River when the teams last played back in May of 2025, sneaking past 8-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
