Volleyball Recap: Monroe Hornets vs. Waynesville Spartans
If Monroe was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Edgewood last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Monroe Hornets took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Waynesville Spartans on Thursday. The Hornets were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in August of 2023.
Monroe was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Waynesville work for it, especially in the first set. The match finished with set scores of 31-29, 14-25, 25-21, 25-18.
Even though they lost, Monroe was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least eight aces in seven consecutive matches.
Monroe's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-7. As for Waynesville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-9.
Monroe does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Waynesville, they are on the road again on Saturday to play Centerville at 9:15 p.m.
