The Cholla Chargers will take on the Pusch Ridge Christian Academy Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Cholla comes in on three and Pusch Ridge Christian Academy on four.
Cholla is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Amphitheater a 23-0 shutout on Thursday. The result was nothing new for the Chargers, who have now won six matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Jesus Martinez was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Martinez was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he hit this season.
In other batting news, Hector Silvain and Gregory Ortiz did most of the damage at the plate: Silvain went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Ortiz scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. That stolen base was Ortiz's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Alvarez, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Cholla kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy got the win against Rincon/University on Friday by a conclusive 24-1. That 23 run margin sets a new team best for the Lions this season.
Like Cholla, Pusch Ridge Christian Academy also got a great game from a two-way player: Lincoln Miller. He tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Miller is becoming a predictor of Pusch Ridge Christian Academy's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is undefeated (and 5-7 when he doesn't). Miller was also big at the plate, scoring four runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. Those four runs gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Hunter Edmunds was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He has become a key player for Pusch Ridge Christian Academy: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cruz Corona, who scored four runs while going 1-for-2.
Pusch Ridge Christian Academy now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Cholla, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cholla has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Pusch Ridge Christian Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
