Soccer Game Preview: Lopez vs. Nixon

The Lopez Lobos will challenge the Nixon Mustangs at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Lopez comes in on nine and Nixon on three.

Lopez is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They never let Pioneer get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory. Considering Lopez have won 15 matches by more than two goals this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Nixon earned a 3-1 win over Gregory-Portland on Friday. Given Nixon's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 206th, while Gregory-Portland are ranked 550th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pedro Zapata and Alexis Serna scored all three of Nixon's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 29 goals.

Lopez's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-0-2. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five games. As for Nixon, their victory bumped their record up to 20-3-1.

Lopez took their win against Nixon in their previous meeting back in April of 2017 by a conclusive 4-0. Will Lopez repeat their success, or does Nixon has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
