The Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary Cardinals will head out to face off against the Bishop Montgomery Knights at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
Last Thursday, Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary didn't have quite enough to beat Mary Star of the Sea and fell 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by just one run.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop Montgomery). They never let Serra get on the board and left with a 23-0 win on Tuesday. The Knights might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matches by six runs or more this season.
Madeline Chambers was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, she posted three strikeouts, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.
In other pitching news, Macey Kim and Brooke Patterson dominated on the mound. Kim went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and three runs, while Patterson pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Kim has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Grace Garciaparra was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bailey Solheim, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Bishop Montgomery hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive contests.
Bishop Montgomery has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-8.
Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to Bishop Montgomery when the teams last played back in March. Can the Cardinals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
