Recap: King Mustangs vs. Ray Texans
This season hasn't been kind to The King Mustangs, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They took a hard 24-7 fall against Ray on Friday. King was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Ray apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Ray can attribute much of their success to Ruben Garza, who rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown on only eight carries.
King's defeat was their ninth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 0-9. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-0 Miller and 6-1 Alice (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 65.6% over those games). As for Ray, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. King will square off against Corpus Christi Moody at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Corpus Christi Moody comes in on a streak of failing to score more than ten points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Ray, they will head out on the road to face off against Carroll at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
