San Marcos remains the team to beat, but also watch out for Cathedral Catholic, Torrey Pines, Ramona and Eastlake in the San Diego Section softball #MaxPrepsFab5.

2017 San Diego Section Preseason Softball Fab 5, presented by the Army National Guard

1. San Marcos

2016 record: 23-4-2
Head coach: Steve Tidd

San Marcos racked up 23 wins and captured the CIF San Diego Section Open Division championship last season. Junior Payton Tidd will be a force in the circle after notching an impressive 19-1 record and 1.18 ERA. Expect Alexis Orozco to be a terror at the plate after tallying 39 RBIs and 10 homers.

2. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego)
2016 record: 25-5-1
Head coach: Margaret Mauro

The Dons registered 25 wins and reached the third round of the Open Division tournament last year. Slugger Megan Faraimo will be tough to neutralize after batting .433 and cranking out nine homers. She has also proven her dominance at pitcher after posting a 10-2 mark with a 0.22 ERA.

3. Torrey Pines (San Diego)
2016 record: 23-6
Head coach: Jonathan Moore

The Falcons recorded 23 wins and 
reached the second round of the Open Division tournament last season. Senior Sydny Poh will lead the attack after batting .458 with 28 RBIs. Pitcher Haley White should be tough to crack after notching a 10-4 record with a 1.50 ERA.

4. Ramona
2016 record: 27-5
Head coach: Kristina Wright

Ramona tallied a spectacular 27 victories last season. Slugger Alexa Neil will spearhead the Bulldogs' stacked lineup after batting .422 with 33 RBIs.

5. Eastlake (Chula Vista)
2016 record: 17-10
Head coach: Perelini Bush

The Titans failed to reach the playoffs last year - but bring back a strong nucleus of talent. Sophomore Sharlize Palacios will head the charge after batting .534 and belting seven homers.
