Baseball Recap: Wednesday's Loss Ends San Leandro's Winning Streak

San Leandro dropped their record down to 15-7 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the Mt. Eden Monarchs by a score of 3-2. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Pirates couldn't push the score so high this time.

Sam Linnevers was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ben Mladanich made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Mt. Eden, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-11. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 6.8 runs.

On Mt. Eden's side, Mateo Romo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits. The Monarchs are 4-1 when Romo allows one or fewer earned runs, but 8-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Mt. Eden saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryan Zamora, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run.

While San Leandro had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
