Recap: Sahuarita Mustangs vs. Tanque Verde Hawks
The Sahuarita Mustangs's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They took a 49-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tanque Verde. Sahuarita has not had much luck with Tanque Verde recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
Despite the loss, Sahuarita still got an impressive performance from Alejandro Vega, who scored 11 points along with 7 rebounds. Vega continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ruben Villalba, who scored 9 points.
Sahuarita struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Tanque Verde racked up 12.
Leading Tanque Verde to victory were Rocco Haggard and Rich Knott. Haggard scored 15 points along with 5 rebounds and 4 steals, while Knott dropped a double-double on 21 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it two consecutive games in which Haggard has scored at least 25% of Tanque Verde's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Clausen, who scored 8 points along with 7 rebounds.
Sahuarita's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 2-7. As for Tanque Verde, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Sahuarita will head out on the road to face off against Apache Junction at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Tanque Verde won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against San Miguel at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. San Miguel comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
