Baseball Game Preview: Lincolnwood Lancers vs. Gillespie Miners

Lincolnwood is 0-3 against Gillespie since May of 2015 but things could change on Friday. Lincolnwood is taking a road trip to challenge Gillespie at 4:30 p.m. Lincolnwood will be strutting in after a victory while Gillespie will be coming in after a defeat.

While Lincolnwood's win against Carlinville wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Lincolnwood sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 1-0 victory over Carlinville on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Lancers in their matchups with the Cavaliers: they've now won three in a row.

Not much got past Brodey VanHooser, who gave up just five hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Carlinville off the board.

At the plate, Lincolnwood's victory was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Luke Pope, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Gillespie's offense. They fell just short of Auburn by a score of 2-0 on Tuesday. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Miners' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Lincolnwood's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Gillespie, their loss dropped their record down to 2-2.

Lincolnwood came up short against Gillespie when the teams last played back in April of 2023, falling 5-2. Can Lincolnwood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
