Basketball Game Preview: Danville Hawks vs. Brewer Patriots

The Danville Hawks will challenge the Brewer Patriots at 7:45 p.m. on Thursday. Danville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season.

Danville's tournament run continued when they took on Falkville on Monday. Danville walked away with a 52-43 victory over Falkville.

Danville's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jace Glenn, who posted 12 points. Another player making a difference was Ben Ellenburg, who put up 12 points along with five boards and three steals.

Danville smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Brewer entered their tilt with Vinemont on Friday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They breezed by the Eagles to the tune of 65-37. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 37-14.

Danville better focus on containing Cam Ballinger and Cason Oden as the pair were huge in Brewer's win. Ballinger went 10 for 15 en route to 23 points, while Oden went 5 of 10 on his way to 10 points and six rebounds. The dominant performance gave Ballinger a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Dunn, who earned four points.

Brewer's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-5. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.2 points per game. As for Danville, their victory bumped their record up to 9-16.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Danville has been crashing the boards this season, having averaged 30.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Brewer struggles in that department as they've been averaging 33.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.

Danville took a serious blow against Brewer when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 58-30. Can Danville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
