Basketball Recap: Monrovia Triumphs

Monrovia won the last time they faced Owen Valley, and Hudson McCloud did his part to make sure it happened again. The Monrovia Bulldogs enjoyed a cozy 60-45 win over the Owen Valley Patriots on Friday thanks in part to McCloud, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 boards. Those 21 points gave him a new career-high.

Despite the defeat, Owen Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Donavin Newby posted 17 points and four steals. Those four steals set a new season-high mark for Newby. Another player making a difference was Rhet Heckman, who put up six points.

The victory got Monrovia back to even at 3-3. As for Owen Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 1-5.

Monrovia didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 63-53 defeat against Martinsville on the 21st. As for Owen Valley, they will venture away from home to challenge Clay City at 12:30 p.m. on Friday.
