Basketball Recap: Smithson Valley Comes Up Short

Smithson Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. The matchup between them and the Veterans Memorial Patriots didn't end well, with the Smithson Valley Rangers falling 47-32. The Rangers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Patriots apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Smithson Valley still got an impressive performance from Cyanna Cavazos, who posted 23 points. That's the most points Cavazos has posted since back in November of 2024. Aspen Murphy was another key player, putting up five points.

Smithson Valley's loss dropped their record down to 8-17. As for Veterans Memorial, they moved to 5-19 with that victory, which also ended their ten-game losing streak.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Boerne-Champion the next time they take the court. Veterans Memorial will host Boerne-Champion at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while Smithson Valley will head out to face them at 6:30 p.m. on January 10th.
