Basketball Recap: Opelika Comes Up Short

Opelika lost against Central on January 7th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Opelika Bulldogs lost 60-35 to the Central Red Devils. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 264th, while the Red Devils are ranked 33rd).

Jabria Lindsey continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Central, dropping a double-double on 33 points and 11 boards. The contest was Lindsey's 29th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kandria Mebuge, who went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points and five rebounds.

Opelika has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-18 record this season. As for Central, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 18-5.

Opelika does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Central, they will face off against Smiths Station at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Central is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.4 points per game this season.
