Having won 48 of their last 50 contests and the last two Kansas big school state championships, Wichita South is an easy choice as the state's top team in 2014-15, but Leavenworth is a close No. 2.

Olathe South hopes to be playing deep into the postseason again in 2014-15.

1. South (Wichita)
2013-14 finish: 24-1, Back-to-back Class 6A state champion
Head coach: Antwain Scales

Titan seniors Patriece Dodson and Kirea Rogers have guided Scales' program to a 48-2 mark the last two seasons and two state titles. And they, along with Kendrian Elliott, Ericka Mattingly and Kayla Callins are huge assets as Wichita South makes a run for its fourth straight state basketball tournament berth as well as a third straight big school state title.

2. Leavenworth
2013-14 finish: 29-1, Class 5A state champion
Head coach: Jordan Mellott

A trio of senior All-Sunflower League selections returns for Mellott in 2014-15, along with nearly everybody else on the roster. Tyler Johnson (6-2) and Tashia Jones (6-0) will lead the charge as the Pioneers make a run to a Class 5A state championship repeat, as will Rachel Blackburn (6-3).

3. Maize
2013-14 finish: 20-5, Class 6A state runner-up
Head coach: Jerrod Handy

Handy's senior class has produced 63 wins and three state tournament berths going into their final season as prepsters. Now they're hoping to add a state championship to the Eagle trove of treasures. All three seniors are set to play beyond high school. Keiryn Swenson (6-2), a University of Arkansas recruit, averaged more than 14 points a game a year ago, while Daley Handy (6-0) will play her college ball at Wyoming. Saige Baalman is still undecided on college, but she has options. Brianna Johnson (5-6) also returns after starting as a freshman.

4. South (Olathe)
2013-14 finish: 22-3, Class 6A state consolation champion
Head coach: Steve Ingram

Three starters return for the Falcons, as well as a pair of letter winners from a year ago. Ingram's club will be led by University of Kansas recruit Kylee Kopatich (5-11, Sr.), who was a finalist for the DiRenna Award, which goes out to the top player in Kansas City. Kopatich averaged 12 points and six assists last year. Jordan Morton (5-10, Sr.), a second team All-Sunflower League selection, and Zoe Matje (5-7, Jr.) return with starting experience as well.

5. Central Plains (Claflin)
2013-14 finish: 26-0, Class 2A state champion
Head coach: Pat Stiles

Expectations are running high for the Oilers this season. Stiles returns four starters and nine total lettermen off of a team that won the Class 2A championship, 47-45, over Jefferson County North last March. And to Stiles' delight, eight of those nine players will return again next season. Junior guards Reagan Phelan (5-6) and Taylor Rolfs (5-10) will lead the charge following first team all-state performances a year ago. Janae Ryan (5-7, So.) and Kendi Maxwell (5-7, Jr.) are the other two returning starters.
