Softball Game Preview: Clarence Red Devils vs. Lancaster Redskins

The Clarence Red Devils will square off against the Lancaster Redskins at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Clarence will be strutting in after a win while Lancaster will be coming in after a loss.

Clarence took an eight-run defeat the last time they faced off against Frontier, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Red Devils sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Falcons on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Lancaster fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Williamsville North on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 7-5. The loss put an end to the Redskins' undefeated start to the season.

Matthews Maddy was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off 11 hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, Alyssa Brunner was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella DiMino, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs.

The win got Clarence back to even at 1-1. As for Lancaster, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Clarence skirted past Lancaster 4-3 in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Do the Red Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Redskins turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
