Newport waltzed into their game on Friday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. They never let the Reardan Screaming Eagles get on the board and left with a 13-0 win. Considering the Grizzlies have won five matchups by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Lili Hall was a major factor no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and one double.
In other batting news, Bella Boyd was incredible, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played. Another player making a difference was Genica Kreider, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Newport hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in four consecutive contests.
