Basketball Recap: Ashley Takes a Loss

Ashley played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They took a blow against the Laney Buccaneers, falling 75-46. While losing is never fun, the Screaming Eagle can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Buccaneers are ranked 108th).

Despite the loss, Ashley still got an impressive performance from Nate Jarrell, who posted 13 points.

Laney's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Colin Lamb led the charge by as he made all 5 shots he took racking up 10 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Fortun, who had 12 points.

Ashley's loss was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Laney, their record is now 9-5.

Ashley won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against South Lenoir at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ashley is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season. As for Laney, they will face off against North Brunswick at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in North Brunswick's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four matchups.
