Baseball Game Preview: Masterman vs. Carver High School of Engineering & Science

Masterman will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Carver High School of Engineering & Science at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Carver High School of Engineering & Science took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Masterman, who comes in off a win.

Masterman is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Northeast. Masterman's pitchers stepped up to hand Northeast a 19-0 shutout last Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for Masterman in their matchups with Northeast: they've now won five in a row.

Gabe Larosa and Owen Kingsley made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Larosa pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Kingsley tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Larosa a new career-low in walks (zero). At bat, Larosa scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Kingsley got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Noah Seder, who scored four runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Sam Philippi was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Masterman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Carver High School of Engineering & Science was a bit more limited in their game on Tuesday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Science Leadership Academy.
