Basketball Game Preview: Glastonbury Guardians vs. Cheney Tech Chargers

Two dominant guards in David Smith and Mohamed Camara are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Glastonbury Guardians will square off against the Cheney Tech Chargers at 1:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Glastonbury's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last nine matchups.

Last Friday, Glastonbury blew past Bristol Eastern, posting a 69-42 victory. Given the Guardians' advantage in MaxPreps' Connecticut basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while the Lancers are ranked 50th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Smith, who went 9 of 18 en route to 24 points in addition to five rebounds and four blocks. The contest was his 11th in a row with at least ten points. Mike Carroll was another key player, putting up seven points along with seven boards and six assists.

Glastonbury was working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Cheney Tech came up short against Windham RVT on Friday and fell 75-64. The Chargers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Glastonbury's win was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-1. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 73.0 points per game. As for Cheney Tech, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 6-4.

Glastonbury came up short against Cheney Tech in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 49-45. Can Glastonbury avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
