Basketball Recap: Green Valley Comes Up Short

Green Valley lost against Las Vegas back in December of 2022 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Green Valley Gators were outmatched by the Las Vegas Wildcats and fell 58-26. The Gators have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Green Valley saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tabitha Bwakamba dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 boards. Those 12 rebounds set a new season-high mark for Bwakamba.

Las Vegas found their leader in freshman Sariyah Johnson, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 27 rebounds. Johnson has been hot, having posted 11 or more boards the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jordan DuBois, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 12 points and four steals.

Green Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 3-11. As for Las Vegas, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Green Valley will head out to face off against Doral Academy Red Rock at 6:30 p.m. on January 6, 2025. As for Las Vegas, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Democracy Prep Agassi Campus at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
