Softball Recap: Bishop Fenwick Comes Up Short

Bishop Fenwick had lost three straight at home, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 4-10 to make it four. They took a 12-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Masconomet Regional Chieftains. That's two games in a row now that the Crusaders have lost by exactly five runs.

As for Masconomet Regional, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-8. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.7 runs over those games.

For Masconomet Regional's part, Sydnee Vocino spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.

On the hitting side, Logan Schaap was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run and four RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aimee Quimby, who went 3-for-4 with four runs and one double.

Looking ahead, Bishop Fenwick will take on Marblehead at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday. As for Masconomet Regional, they will head out to challenge Danvers at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Chieftains' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 9.1 runs per game this season.
