Basketball Recap: Window Rock Takes a Loss

Window Rock was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 56-53 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ganado Hornets. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Fighting Scouts this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 57-39 two weeks ago.

When it comes to explaining why Window Rock lost, don't look at Alaina Begaye. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Begaye a new career-high in points. Kourtney Bitselley was another key player, putting up 14 points.

Ganado's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jasah McIntosh, who went 8 for 18 en route to 24 points and seven assists. McIntosh's evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith James, who went 7 of 13 on her way to 19 points.

Window Rock's loss dropped their record down to 7-16. As for Ganado, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-7.

Window Rock didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 65-39 defeat against Tuba City on the 30th. Ganado has also already played their next matchup, a 55-51 loss against Chinle on the 31st.
