Basketball Recap: Viewmont Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

Viewmont and Brighton squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Viewmont had to settle for second. They took a 61-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Brighton Bengals. The contest was a 29-29 toss-up at halftime, but the Vikings couldn't quite close it out.

Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Mary Carr, who dropped a double-double with 13 points and ten boards. Carr has been hot, having posted nine or more rebounds the last six times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Callie Peterson, who posted ten points and seven boards.

Even though they lost, Viewmont smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

It was another big night for Sophie Nielsen, who dropped a double-double with 25 points and 15 rebounds for Brighton. With that strong performance, Nielsen is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Charlotte Oneal was another key player, dropping a double-double with ten points and 11 rebounds.

Viewmont's defeat dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Brighton, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.

Viewmont does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Brighton, they will face off against West at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as West comes in on 22 and Brighton on five.
