Basketball Game Preview: South Effingham Mustangs vs. Glynn Academy Terrors

South Effingham is 1-9 against Glynn Academy since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Saturday. The South Effingham Mustangs will look to defend their home court against the Glynn Academy Terrors at 6:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

South Effingham is headed into the contest having just suffered their biggest loss since February 3, 2024 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Statesboro and fell 86-49. The Mustangs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 37-17.

South Effingham's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Hayden Lloyd, who posted four points, and Landyn White, who earned five points. Another player making a difference was Lawton Bowen, who put up four points.

Even though they lost, South Effingham smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Glynn Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a blow against Brunswick, falling 74-35. While losing is never fun, the Terrors can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 492nd, while the Pirates are ranked 38th).

Glynn Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-17. As for South Effingham, their loss dropped their record down to 5-10.

South Effingham ended up a good deal behind Glynn Academy when the teams last played back in January of 2024, losing 87-71. Can South Effingham avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
