Softball Game Preview: McLeod Longhorns vs. Rivercrest Rebels

The McLeod Longhorns will head out to take on the Rivercrest Rebels at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. McLeod is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

McLeod came out on top against Pewitt on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Longhorns put the hurt on the Brahmas with a sharp 10-3 win. Ten seems to be a good number for the Longhorns as the squad scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Anna Dempsey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on ten hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Taylor Dees was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Kori Byargeon, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI and one double.

Meanwhile, Rivercrest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 8-2 to Detroit. The game snapped a strange streak: the last four times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.

McLeod has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-4-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for Rivercrest, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-17.

McLeod came up short against Rivercrest when the teams last played on March 10th, falling 8-3. Can the Longhorns avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
