Basketball Recap: Little Cypress-Mauriceville Takes a Loss

Little Cypress-Mauriceville lost against Silsbee back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears had to suffer through a 100-70 loss at the hands of the Silsbee Tigers. The Bears were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 59-32.

Leading Silsbee to victory were Payton Jones and Quinton Shoulders. Jones went 7 for 13 on his way to 20 points in addition to seven assists and six steals, while Shoulders went 7 for 9 on his way to 20 points and five assists. Jones is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last nine games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Troy Rice, who went 5 of 6 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville dropped their record down to 12-15 with the loss, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 51.0 points per game. As for Silsbee, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 12-13.

Little Cypress-Mauriceville will take on Jasper at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Little Cypress-Mauriceville is facing Jasper at the right time seeing as Jasper is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Silsbee, they will challenge West Orange-Stark at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
