Football Game Preview: Mount St. Mary Rockets vs. Jones Longhorns

Two dominant signal callers in Roman Manella and Acyn Hansen are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Mount St. Mary Rockets will square off against the Jones Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Mount St. Mary 8.7, Jones 9.6) so any points scored will be well earned.

Mount St. Mary made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Millwood, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Rockets fell just short of the Falcons by a score of 24-22 on Thursday. The game marked the Rockets' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Meanwhile, Jones put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Chisholm 45-12. Given Jones' advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma football rankings (they are ranked 17th, while Chisholm is ranked 104th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mount St. Mary better keep an eye on Jonquay Johnson. He was instrumental in Jones' win, rushing for 250 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries. Johnson's longest rush was for an impressive 63 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Jose Taylor, who rushed for 100 yards and one touchdown on only 14 carries.

Jones was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 534 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since the start of last season.

Having lost for the first time this season, Mount St. Mary fell to 6-1. As for Jones, their win bumped their record up to 7-0.

Mount St. Mary was taken down by Jones 49-7 in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Hansen, who threw for 238 yards and four TDs while completing 87.5% of his passes, and also rushed for 78 yards on only seven carries. Now that the Rockets know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
